Behind the Scenes of TED
I love getting sucked into the TED vortex on a rainy day here in NYC. Which is exactly what happened yesterday. I actually came across a couple great behind the scenes videos over on the iso50 blog. What started off as the typical dose of TED inspiration, unfolded quickly into a very surreal experience.
Raghava who was part of the 2010 TED conference and can be seen in the second behind the scenes video above, was actually my roommate while I was studying animation at Parsons during the summer of 2001. This was my first taste of NYC living. We were housed in a tiny bunk-loft-style room above the Blue Water Grill in Union Square with no air conditioning and jack-hammering road construction that took place late at night all summer long. He and I unfortunately lost touch after Parsons, but after seeing his talk, and realizing that the New York City tractor beam had ironically pulled us both back to the island, I tracked him down and we are now planning to get reacquainted soon.
We both have passion for inspiring and working with kids, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this conversation evolves. You can read more about Raghava on his website raghavakk.com

The {NewNew} partners with PS 11 to bring you CRAFTS IN CHELSEA III
WHEN: Saturday, October 16 from 9-5pm
WHERE: 21st street between 8th and 9th avenue
This event spotlights over 100 of the best local New York artists and craftspeople vending their own unique jewelry, pottery, clothing, fine art and other handmade goods. Visitors to the fair will enjoy the opportunity to converse with artists about their creative processes while shopping for one of a kind items.
This event is run in conjunction with PS 11's annual FALL FESTIVAL – an indoor event that includes food, arts and crafts, bouncy castles, games and a petting zoo for New York City children. Last year this event drew record crowds and helped to fund arts programs for the students of PS 11.

RTD at Crafts In Chelsea This Weekend

WHEN: Saturday May 8, 2010, 10am – 5pm
WHERE: 21st street between 8-9 Avenues, NYC
Join RAWTOASTDESIGN in Chelsea, one of Manhattan's most popular neighborhoods for dining and entertaining, for CRAFTS IN CHELSEA: a gathering of over 100 of the finest local Etsy artists and craftspeople.
Shop for the very best hand made art, jewelry, clothing, ceramics, knits, glass, and other crafts.
Chelsea is a mecca for a fine design aesthetic, attracting much of the demographic that at one time made the West Village the trendiest neighborhood in town. Some of New York’s finest dining can be found on Eigth Avenue, and numerous upscale hotels have opened in the area this year. It is a family friendly neighborhood with a cutting edge night life–a stone’s throw from the Empire State Building and Times Square.
This event benefits Public School PS11, and helps to ensure that its arts programs remain funded

Holiday Help Wanted :)
ho hO HO! The Holiday season is certainly here and papa commerce is right around the corner. RTD's art prints have several holiday craft/art markets that they will be participating in. I'm extending the invitation to one or two lucky folks to be part of team RTD this holiday season. It's no golden ticket to the chocolate factory, but you will be helping me find homes for all these happy little RTD prints over the next few weeks.
The dates would be November 28th & 29th, and the first two weekends of December, the 5th & 6th and the 12th & 13th. You will be working at my artist & fleas location in Williamsburg (1 block from the Bedford L stop) and it would be from 11:30-7:30 each day. I'm currently working on booking other shows, so I could have some other days available as well.
So if your dream of fighting crime or becoming a super hero hasn't quite panned out yet and you are looking for some temporary (paid) work to get you through the holidays, shoot an email to - info (at) rawtoastdesign (dot) com << (the "at" and the "dot" are for outwitting those pesky spam robots, if it outwits you, then you probably need not apply). Give a little background info on yourself, why you like RTD, and why you like being happy and selling stuff at the same time. Links to your FB pages, websites, etc are all welcome along with any other interesting facts about yourself too. All applications need to be in by noon, Thursday the 26th (gobble gobble). Early application is encouraged as I will give this to the 1st person I feel would make a great fit. If only five of the six dates will work for you, some flexibility could be possible, so please still drop me an email and let me know your "unique" situation. (xmas bonus to anyone who can do all six though :)
Looking forward to adding a new member to the RTD family!
Best,
Jesse / RAWTOASTDESIGN
