Illustration Friday: Dessert

I know this is supposed to be where I would normally post an illustration for this weeks IF topic, "dessert," but my time has been consumed with giving away my work for free this week to help raise awareness for a local school. Illustration Friday: Early

This was an illustration that was originally commissioned by Time Out New York Kids and fits the theme pretty well over at Illustration Friday this week. Illustration Friday: Tango

Originally commissioned for a nature and technology cover, but lends itself pretty nicely to this weeks IF topic "tango" too.

IF: Fleeting

This is an older illo that I did for one of my first editorial gigs...the title was "Fleeting Memories". Hope all you IFers are havin a great Friday! Art prints are available too :) - Fleeting Memories print

IF: Time

This piece was done recently for St. Louis Magazine, the article discussed the idea and usage of "Time Dollars" and their more recent popularity in the wake of the current economy. The concept of the whole idea was actually really cool, I had never heard of this type of bartering system before. The article can be read here - link.

Assignments like these are a big part of why I love being an illustrator. Many of the articles that you get to illustrate keep you in a constant state of learning, research, and discovery.

IF: Flawed

Haven't posted to Illustration Friday for a little while. Sometimes flaws are only a state of mind... this was a self promo piece I did titled "Happy On The Inside"

IF: Resolve

Been awhile since I've had some spare time to do one for IF. This weeks topic is "Resolve"... with a little careful planning this fatty is about to resolve his hunger pangs... unless that gluttonous belly sucks him down to his demise first.

I just finished this for 417 Magazine...The article is on a turkey processing plant that was recently closed down. I actually submitted it while it was still a work in progress last week for the IF: Balloons topic, but didn't get it in til late Thursday night. Anyways, I think it works for "Similar" as well so I'm posting the final version here for it too. Hope everyone is havin a great week!

Just finished this up for a mag a few days ago, seems to work for this weeks theme as well. Story was about a man's obsession with minivans. This one in particular was real lemon and he spent the majority of his days tinkering and repairing something that ultimately destroyed his relationship with his girlfriend. Hope everyone is havin a great weekend!

Illo I did awhile back titled "Fly Fishing"... seems to fit the bill for this weeks "strings" topic. Hopefully I'll have a chance to illustrate something new for this one too.

IF: Island

This is for the Illustration Friday "Island" topic. I actually used this for the "garden" topic a while back, but did a limited edition print series for it since then titled the GARDENER ON POTATO ISLAND. Here is the original message that accompanied the first one...
Funny how a word can transport you back in time when you really start thinking about it. My mom used to let me grow potato plants in jars on our window sills as a kid (bless her, cause they start to stink after awhile). They grow pretty quickly so I used to get really excited to look at them each day when I got home from school to see the progress. Then at night my mind would wander beyond the science of things and imagine the little people that showed up during the day to water the vines while I was away at school.

So this is the illustration I came up with after that thought...
