New Work / 417 Magazine illos

I've been doing a monthly spot for the Talk of the Town section in 417 Magazine for almost a year now. The material is always funny or a little bizarre and the art director, Cassie Darst, has always been very receptive to my sketches/ideas and has been a pleasure to work with. Some of the past subjects have included robots, toilets, rainbows, and naked turkeys. Here are a few more from the most recent months.

"Fore Scores" - The blurb on this was for a Branson golf community that had been named among the top 20 in the nation.

"Medical Mountain" - This was about a Springfield eye doctor that went to Mt. Everest in the name of science and adventure to set up at the site of Caudwell Xtreme Everest. It is a London-based medical expedition during which doctors and health specialists will study how the human body works under grueling and extreme conditions at high altitude and with low oxygen levels. The doctors and scientists are doing medical testing on more than 70 volunteers as they ascend to a base camp. The goal is to use the study’s findings to help doctors treat critically ill patients suffering from diseases and conditions such as acute respiratory distress syndrome, congenital heart disease, oxygen deficiency, altitude sickness and more.

"Park Avenue a-go-go" - This one was about an interior design and architecture firm Buxton-Kubik-Dodd that has expanded its business practices to China. The Chinese development companies were looking for designs with American style, and Buxton-Kubik-Dodd completed several luxury showrooms, including themes of Park Avenue and Frank Lloyd Wright. Many of the condos that they designed are now being featured on billboards across China.

www.thearsenalnyc.com

This Saturday, July 18th, from 11am-9pm, the fashion experts at The Arsenal have curated a pop-up mart of wildly talented local designers to sell their clothing, accessories and jewelry in our gorgeous loft space for one weekend only. From high-end to handmade, you’ll have the chance to grab a complete variety of hard-to-find pieces that you won’t see anywhere else, for prices that make you smile.

Also, we will have a showcase of fabulous Brooklyn-based DJs spinning throughout the day, and the bar will be serving up yummy 2 for 1 mimosa, DIY bloody mary and beer specials…because shopping is always a great excuse to party. As if that wasn’t enough, we will have a room devoted to workshops on everything from crochet to screenprinting to jewelry making, so that you can get inside the process and learn how your new purchase is made.
